Spring Schedule

January through June 2008
Amy had a busy winter/spring season commencing in January with a developing riders clinic in CA and then a training session with Capt Phillips and Laura Kraut. Team Tryon then headed east to FL for Rocking Horse HT and then Ocala Horse Park HT. March kicked off with Pine Top HT and then another Capt Phillips training session. The Red Hills CIC and Poplar Place Horse Trials rounded out the month.

March 18 Update from Team Tryon

April began with a Capt Phillips training session followed by a weekend at the Fork CIC. The next weekend brought yet another training session and then off to the Florida Horse Park CCI**. The crew headed to Rolex, but unfortunately Amy's unplanned knee surgery sidelined her and Poggio. Amy did end up joining Kerry Milliken as a commentator on the Rolex webcast though. We enjoyed listening to the broadcast and think she might just have a new career opportunity to pursue.

About Amy

Amy Tryon rode a borrowed pony in her first 3-Day Event at the age of 8, and in the ensuing 20+ years has never lost her goal of riding for the United States. She finished high school early in order to gain upper level experience beyond the pacific northwest. From age 16 to 21, Amy traveled the country with two horses, competing, training with world-class instructors, and supporting herself as a working student.

After completing college, Amy started her career as a professional
firefighter which allowed her the flexibility to balance her business commitments with her equestrian goals. She retired from firefighting in the summer of 2006 to devote herself entirely to riding.

Amy is based out of Mapleleaf Eventing (at Upson Downs in Duvall, WA) a 20-stall barn she manages. She rides 4-5 horses most days and teaches many lessons. Amy also donates her time to local Pony Clubs, 4-H groups, and up-and-coming Young Riders - giving clinics in dressage, jumping, and horse management.

Having one very talented horse is something all equestrian competitors hope for; having the opportunity to compete multiple such horses in a given season is the dream of a lifetime. Amy's friends, family, and long-time instructor, Ruth Weissiger Moore of Whidbey Island, WA, form the core of her support group. All have reached out with extraordinary help to make Amy's journey possible. THANK YOU.

Amy & Poggio II Win the Individual Bronze Medal at the World Equestrian Games, Aachen 2006

Finishing on a score of 50.7, Amy & Poggio brought home the Individual Bronze Medal. Amy is thrilled with Poggio - starting off the competition with a solid dressage ride, a double clear XC ride and a double clear stadium ride.

The U.S. team finished a close 4th to Australia. Germany won the Team Gold Medal with a score of 156, Great Britain won the Team Silver with 180, and Australia won the Team Bronze with 197.30.

Unites States Eventing Team wins the Bronze Medal, Olympic Games 2004

Amy and Poggio II were one of only two combinations to show jump faultlessly in the team and individual rounds finishing 6th individually. Amy and Poggio wish to thank everyone who supported and encouraged them on the long journey towards the Olympics. Your good wishes and generosity made it all possible!
