The Event at Rebecca Farm, July 2009
Team Tryon had a busy week in Montana. We arrived very early on Monday morning, a day before the training sessions with Capt Mark Phillips. The horses settled in well...all 6 of them that Amy rode! Check out the USEA Eventing Blog for day-by-day coverage of the competition plus great photos here.

An Olympic Experience Event Camp, June 2009

What an incredible week! Check out photographs from a week filled with knowledge and fun.

Here are a few perspectives on the camp: check out Max Corcoran's blog

Team Tryon News, May 2009
Kentucky was a weekend filled with emotions. Leyland debuted at the four-star level and rose to the challenge finishing in 13th place in a competitive field. Poggio II went along for the trip to Lexington and was officially retired from International competition in a touching ceremony on Sunday morning.

Leyland returned home in great spirits and enjoyed some down time. Back to work with the rest of the horses and a busy summer and fall schedule to look forward to. Stay tuned for an updated competition calendar and news from the exciting "Olympic Experience" eventing camp in June at Rebecca Farms.

Team Tryon News, April 2009
We just returned from a warm and sunny weekend at Galway Downs in Temecula, CA. Amy and Leyland won the CIC***, finishing on a double clear stadium round. Leyland will be making his four-star debut at the Rolex Kentucky CCI**** in just a few weeks. More on Galway Downs results.

Accompanying Leyland to the Kentucky Horse Park is Poggio, who will be there for his official retirement ceremony. If you'll be at Rolex, please come say hello and take pics with Pogi. He loves to meet his fans! Stay tuned for more news later this month. (Photo at left by

Team Tryon News, March 2009
What happened to sunny CA? It's been a hard 2009 in terms of WA weather...and CA wasn't much better, unfortunately. Even so, we had a great trip to CA with two successful outings - Ram Tap Horse Trials (Fresno, CA) and Twin Rivers Horse Trials (Paso Robles, CA). Leyland won the Intermediate division at Ram Tap (in the pouring rain). At Twin, Nico and Amy competed together for the first time – finishing 14th in the Intermediate division. Devon, also in Intermediate, finished 2nd. Last, but not least, Leyland finished 4th in the Advanced division.

We'll be home for a few weeks then back to CA for Galway Downs (March 27-29). If all goes according to plan, and everyone is happy and sound, Leyland is off to Rolex.

In other news, we have a fantastic camp planned this summer at Rebecca Farms called “They Olympic Experience”. Amy will be joined by Karen and David O'Connor for a week of fun in Kalispell, MT June 16-21. It should be awesome. More details to come!

New Equine Addition to the Team!

Congratulations to Mr. Richard Thompson on the purchase of That's Smart

The newest addition to the O'Connor Event Team is That's Smart. He and Karen are already enjoying great success together, most recently finishing in second place at the Ocala CCI**.  Smarty was bred by Joanne Bridgman, in New Zealand, and Amy imported him less than 2 years ago. He and Amy competed through the 2-star level.

2008 Highlights
Amy and Coal Creek win CCI*** at Fair Hill

Amy and Devon (pictured left) take top honors at Fair Hill CCI***.  In the same division, Amy and Leyland finish in 8th.

Nearly 14,200 people turned up over four days to watch last weekend's Dansko Fair Hill International CCI3* in Elkton, Maryland, which proved to be one of the most exciting events lately – the championship ribbon was determined by the very last rail during Sunday's show jumping.

2008 Updates from Amy

April 24, 2008
Amy is in Kentucky, but thanks to a last minute knee surgery Wednesday (yesterday), will not be riding. Needless to say, Pogi is a little cranky that his rider is lame and that he has to stand around while all the other horses get to have fun.

They are both looking towards Jersey Fresh now. Wishing all the horses and riders a very successful Kentucky weekend! (

Amy reports she was very pleased with the boys this past weekend at Red Hills. Poggio competed in the CIC***W and was in 11th place after dressage with a 51.2. He started off well on the cross-country course but was retired after the eighth fence having gotten his tongue over the bit.

Leyland and Devon competed in the CIC*** and finished in 2nd and 4th places respectively. Smarty competed in the Intermediate division, his third competition at this level, finishing in 11th place. Amy was particularly pleased with everyone's show jumping rounds - a double clear for Leyland, clean jumping with two time faults for Devon and a double clear for Smarty. (

Next up for the boys is Poplar Place HT where everyone will be competing at the Preliminary level for a bit of a breather. Then they are off to The Fork in early April for the CIC. Stay tuned for more news in the coming months.

Kick on,
Team Tryon

Red Hills was a heart wrenching weekend. Everyone is very saddened by the accidents that occurred and our thoughts, prayers, and many wishes for a speedy recovery go out to Darren. We also send our condolences to Jonathan and Missy for their very tragic losses.

2006-2007 Archived Updates from Amy

April 2, 2007

I can’t believe it's the start of a new season already! Every year it seems to be less of a break over the winter. First bit of news, I decided to sell Woodstock. He went to Ellie Crane, in Ohio. I'm very excited for them and wish them the best of luck. The Woodstock group decided to invest some of Woody’s proceeds into a new prospect and purchased a lovely grey gelding named Smarty from Joanne Bridgman of New Zealand. More

January 1, 2007
We have had more natural disasters in the State of Washington in the last few months than I can ever remember. Are those frogs or locusts I see raining from the sky? Greg and I feel very lucky to have escaped mostly unharmed; however, I have gotten very intimate with our chainsaw and tractor. Greg on the other hand could have a new career as a pyromaniac (he gets to burn all the stuff we cut, with a permit of course...) More

September 25, 2006 (Aachen report)
The first bit of exciting news is the arrival of a new Team Tryon member: Le Samurai, a.k.a. Sparky. Sparks arrived the first part of June and quickly fit in - a bay, slightly quirky, and a cribber - how could I go wrong! More

Amy & Poggio II Win the Individual Bronze Medal, WEG Aachen 2006

Finishing on a score of 50.7, Amy & Poggio brought home the Individual Bronze Medal. Amy is thrilled with Poggio - starting off the competition with a solid dressage ride, a double clear XC ride and a double clear stadium ride. The U.S. team finished a close 4th to Australia. Germany won the Team Gold Medal with a score of 156, Great Britain won the Team Silver with 180, and Australia won the Team Bronze with 197.

Overlake Hospital Benefit 2005
Amy and Poggio II performed an exhibition ride at Rock Meadow Equestrian Center in Issaquah, WA to benefit Overlake Hospital. Poggio enjoyed meeting many of his fans and was very excited to have the chance to show off his dressage and
show jumping skills to a new audience.

The local exhibition also gave Amy's colleagues from Eastside Fire & Rescue
a chance to see her ride.

Unites States Eventing Team wins the Bronze Medal, Olympic Games 2004

Amy and Poggio II were one of only two combinations to show jump double clean in the team and individual rounds finishing 6th individually. Amy and Poggio thank everyone who supported and encouraged them on the long journey towards the Olympics. Your good wishes and generosity made it all possible!
